The tin mine centre is undergoing a huge transformation.
The NEW building will be open in April 2008 giving the visitor
a truly interactive experience of life in the tin filelds in the
early 1900's
|

Step
back in time and savour life like it was in the booming mining town
of Derby.

THE OLD DERBY SCHOOL, first built in 1897, has been transformed
into a mine museum to display historic records, relics and photographs
of the famous tin mines spotted around the North East Coast from
1876 to 1940

Shanty Town includes a Miner's Cottage, General Store,
Butcher Shop, Mine Office and old original Derby Jail

School Groups
Because of the Educational value, we welcome
school parties and groups.

To maintain an authentic feel, the shop is built
from original materials, such as old floorboards and roof taken
from a falling down house on a nearby farm.
|
All the small buildings are appropriately furnished
with period pieces, the number of which continues to grow.

Inside of the old general store is a variety of
old wares.
|

Visitors are free to wander through the buildings and absorb the
atmosphere of a bygone era and try their luck panning for semi-precious
metals at the working display
|

The museum includes a re-created old school room, complete with
original teacher's cane, old school bag, school books and little
desks each with their own slate for the children to write on
|
